Miso Soup

Japan is fully surrounded by sea, so it’s no real surprise that a lot of Japanese meals have something to do with fish and other sea critters. In Tokyo fresh fish will usually be brought to shore early in the morning (4.30h), where it will be traded on the Tsukiji Fish market. According to our [...]

Our flight into Tokyo was not as good as our previous flight, the difference between JAL and Finnair is huge. After we claimed our bags, we took the train from Narita to Shinjuku from where it was supposed to be a 5 minute walk to the hotel. For those of you who’ve never been to [...]
Relic Protected, No Scratch

That morning we started with a nice, hot, venti Mochachino at our local Starbucks (cause, you know: A Starbucks a day, keeps the Chinglish away). After checking our email and confirming some flight information, we took a taxi to the Summer Palace. Although we arrived there in the afternoon, we still managed to see and [...]

The Great Wall is something we both really wanted to see, so November 7th we boarded a tour bus set to go to the Badaling section of the Great Wall. Our tour guide, Tina, provided us with some background information on China and Beijing, while the (according to Tina ‘Master’) bus driver, drove us to [...]
First day Beijing

Thursday November 6th we arrived, after a 3 hour delay, in the beautiful city of Beijing. The flight itself was pretty good, Finnair totally exceeded our expectations.
Beijing is a big, no: huge, no: gigantic city, so it is no wonder that it took us an hour to reach the hotel by taxi.
Москва, Россия

Moscow, a beautiful city and not nearly as expensive as everyone says it is. Just stay away from the ultra-hip restaurants and you’ll be fine.
After a smooth flight from Helsinki and a not so smooth ride from the airport to the hotel, we decided to visit the Kremlin. After a short walk of some 3.6 [...]

Russian Police are friendly and helpful, except for the fact that they aren’t. I would even go as far as to say that they flat out hate people. Taking in account that tourists aren’t even considered human to begin with, you might want to stay (far) away from them. We were doing a great job avoiding the [...]
Cold November Rain
05/11
Sure, we arrived October 31st, but the next morning it was still raining, so the title still fits the post. Ah yes, Helsinki, an uninteresting city, somewhat comparible to Amstelveen in The Netherlands. Maybe it was due to the fact it was dark pretty much the whole time during our visit, maybe it was the cold wind [...]
